✅ The 2 Baseline Requirements

• Admission to a Stanford graduate program: You must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program. You must apply separately but concurrently to KHS and your Stanford program, starting both in the same year.
• Bachelor’s degree window: Your first bachelor’s degree must have been earned (or be expected) in January 2020 or later for the 2027 cohort. Military veterans receive a two-year extension (January 2018 or later). Current college students are eligible if they will earn their first degree by September 2027.

✅ What KHS Does NOT Restrict

• Nationality: All countries eligible — no citizenship restrictions. Undocumented students are also eligible.
• Age: No age limit.
• Field of study: All disciplines eligible — STEM, humanities, arts, business, law, medicine.
• College / university: Any accredited institution worldwide.
• Work experience: No minimum requirement.
• University endorsement: Not required — you apply directly.

❌ Not Eligible: Applicants whose first bachelor’s degree was earned before January 2020 (without military extension), applicants not applying to a full-time Stanford graduate program, and applicants to certain excluded programs (Honors Cooperative Program, Master of Liberal Arts, JSD, MLS, and current coterminal students).

What It Does NOT Cover: Dependants’ expenses, personal travel beyond the annual flight, and additional costs beyond the 3-year funding period. Some PhD programs may extend funding beyond three years through departmental support (RA/TA positions).

1. Three short-answer questions (175 words each). Prompts include: “Tell us about two or three improbable facts about yourself,” “Tell us about a time you fell short,” and “What matters to you and why?”
2. “Connect the Dots” essay (550 words). The most personal essay you will write for any scholarship application. It asks you to connect your past experiences, current work, and future aspirations into a coherent narrative.
3. Two letters of recommendation. KHS gives recommenders five specific prompts to address, plus a 9-characteristic assessment form. They want to know about your character, leadership, and how you treat people — not just your intelligence.
4. Resume/CV (max 2 pages). Should emphasise leadership roles, community involvement, creative projects, and service work more than job titles.
5. Video statement (by invitation only). Up to 500 of ~5,000 eligible applicants are invited to submit a 2-minute video in January. The prompt is: “Teach something to your cohort of fellow Knight-Hennessy Scholars.” Production quality is irrelevant — authenticity is everything.
