Your GPA
—
Choose a grade for each course to see your GPA.
Uses the standard 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0.0. P/S, W, I and AU grades are not counted. Some schools use different scales (for example A+ = 4.3, or no plus/minus grades), so always verify your institution's policy. See other GPA scales.

How to Use This GPA Calculator
The calculator is built to work without any instructions, but here’s exactly what each part does:
- Course (optional): Type the course name if you want to keep track of which row is which. This field doesn’t affect your GPA — it’s just for your own reference.
- Grade: Select the letter grade you earned (or expect to earn) from the dropdown.
- Credits: Enter the number of credit hours the course is worth. This is the number that matters most — a 4-credit course affects your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit one.
- Quality Pts: This column fills in automatically — it’s your grade points multiplied by your credits for that course. You don’t need to calculate it yourself.
- + Add Course: Adds a new row for another course. Add as many as you need.
- Clear All: Resets the entire table if you want to start over.
Your GPA, total quality points, and total credits update instantly at the bottom of the tool — there’s no “Calculate” button to click.
Example: Calculating a Semester GPA
Say you took four courses this semester. Here’s what you’d enter, row by row:
| Course | Grade | Credits | Quality Pts (auto) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | A | 3 | 12.00 |
| English | B+ | 3 | 9.90 |
| Chemistry | B | 4 | 12.00 |
| History | A- | 2 | 7.40 |
As soon as you enter the fourth row, the tool shows Total Quality Points: 41.30 · Total Credits: 12.0 · GPA: 3.44 — no manual division required.
Finding Your Cumulative GPA
If you only enter this semester’s courses, the tool gives you your semester GPA. To get your cumulative GPA (every semester combined), check “Include previous GPA (for cumulative)” above the results card. This adds your prior GPA and prior credit hours into the calculation, so the result reflects your entire academic record — not just the current term.
Where do I find my previous GPA and credit hours? Check your most recent transcript or your school’s student portal — most list your cumulative GPA and total credits attempted right at the top.
What This Calculator Handles — and What It Doesn’t
This tool is built for the most common case: a standard 4.0 scale with +/- grading. Here’s where it fits, and where you’ll need a different approach.
| Situation | Handled? |
|---|---|
| Standard letter grades (A through F, with +/-) | Yes |
| Semester and cumulative GPA | Yes — via the “Include previous GPA” checkbox |
| Percentage or numeric marks | Not directly — convert first |
| Weighted GPA (AP/IB/Honours bonus points) | Not supported |
| A+ grades, or a 4.3/5.0 scale | Not supported |
If your grades are percentages or marks: convert each one to a letter grade first using our Percentage to GPA Converter, then enter the resulting letter grades here.
If you need a weighted GPA: this calculator only applies the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. See the weighted vs. unweighted section and formula in our complete GPA guide →
